Dave & Lesley caught the recent GLAM gig at The Barge and this is what they made of it:
G.L.A.M - GirlsLoveAlphaMales - are
a relatively new band although their members have been on the local music scene for, let's say, quite a while.
When they first
step up on the stage in full 70's glam rock costumes, including wigs and platform shoes, your attention is grabbed and when the
first number strikes up the quality of the sound and vocals keeps you captivated for the whole set.
Although based around the
70's Glam era of Bolan, Bowie, The Sweet, Mott The Hoople etc the set is very diverse. From Alice Cooper's "Schools Out" to The Bay
City Rollers "Shangalang" and even to The Darkness' "I Believe in A Thing Called Love" this band are not afraid to take on and produce
a credible cover of anything they feel will fit in with their set.
Trey Patterson (vocals, keyboards & guitar) is a natural
frontman with all the patter, including a potted history of Glam Rock and the bands evolving set list, but it is his vocal musical
and ability that make you sit up and listen.
Andy Thomas (lead guitar, backing vocals) is far more prominent than I ever
remember in Zero Damage and he rises to the challenge with a lot of effort put into producing an accurate copy of the original guitar
sound.
Jim Peters (bass guitar, backing vocals) provided powerful quality bass in his usual laid back manner while Johnny Vee
(drums) may not have been very visible apart from the huge red wig and flailing arms but his time-keeping and animated drum rolls
were excellent.
Don't take our word for it - check them out for yourself!
