CD Review

Fallen Zero

Track 1: Seven Sins

Track 2: Get Me Out of Here

Track 3: The Streets

This latest up tempo offering from local mod punksters Fallen Zero is, as you would probably expect, brimming with raw power and attitude. The quality of the recording itself is anything but raw however, perfectly capturing the energy of the band in 3 slickly produced tracks. Seven Sins has a real ska feel which is enriched by some neat saxophone work courtesy of Nick Battles and the offbeat guitar chops coupled with the delightfully ringy snare is a tad reminiscent of The Specials in places. Adam Lazenby snarls a great opening lyric “Hey man singin’ the blues I wanna be your front page news” in the Green Day-esque Get Me Out of Here which sees the band arguably back on more familiar ground. With some great in your face drumming from Sam Hobbins you just want to be right in the middle of a beer-soaked mosh pit for this one.  I like the throaty Lazenby vocals on The Streets and Jonny Stephens’ busy bass line gives the track an almost Elvis Costello feel. The reggae break takes you by surprise but is a nice touch and works well.

Verdict: We like this a lot. Its a great advert for Axis Studios and the band must be mightily pleased with how its turned out. Put it on your car stereo and wind your windows down. Turn it up and play it loud!
